Advocates

REACH! Partnership School will be seeking highly motivated college students and graduates to serve as full-time or part-time Advocates during the period mid-July 2010 through mid-June 2011.

REACH! Advocates are AmeriCorps volunteers, sponsored by the school's Operator, Civic Works, Inc., and assigned to the REACH! School for their 12 month period of service.  In addition to a modest living allowance, Advocates gain priceless experience adolescent motivation, leadership, and teaching.  Upon successful completion of their term of service Advocates are eligible for a substantial education award based on their total service hours.  (For information on the AmeriCorps Program click here.)

REACH! Advocates are key members of the school staff. Each Advocate is assigned to a specific group of students for the school year.  For a portion of each school day, Advocates support school faculty and students by mentoring, tutoring, hall monitoring, leading extra-curricular activities, and supporting instruction.  Through these duties, interaction and role modeling, Advocates have a direct impact on student behavior, motivation, academic achievement, and decision making.

REACH! Advocates help faculty and parents shape young lives.

REACH! Advocates receive initial and weekly training to equip them for this challenging, yet rewarding opportunity.

Selections are based on motivation to make a difference, ability to communicate with and build rapport with teenagers and adults, creativity, willingness to work as a part of a team, dependability and desire to self improve. Other essential qualities include:

Patience, Enthusiasm, Punctuality, Flexibility and Compassion

In addition to a modest living allowance ($8.00 - $9.00 per hour) and an AmeriCorps Education Award of up to $2,360, REACH! Advocates receive valuable professional training in group dynamics, classroom management and cutting-edge instructional techniques.

The application period for the 2010 - 2011 school year will begin April 1, 2010.  Please visit this site in March 2010 for additional details and application instructions.
